About the Artist
Emilia Santaella Barreto’s jewellery practice explores belonging, the idea of home, and the complex relationships people form with objects. Working with precious metals, stones, and natural patinas, she creates intimate, emotionally charged pieces designed to be carried, cherished, and passed down through time. For her graduate collection, Amuletos contrala incertidumbre (“Amulets against uncertainty”), Emilia created symbolic protective barriers for the body. Influenced by her own sense of uncertainty, each work explores the tension between safety and danger: thorn-like forms warn of vulnerability, while delicate chain maillesuggests armour as a second skin, offering comfort, protection, and the quiet strength of an amulet. Emilia graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2025 and is now based in London.
