The necklace is designed in response to chain mail, which, unlike other types of armour, has a textile quality that moves with the body—similar to a second skin. It is both flexible and strong when made from numerous silver jump links. The protection it offers is more symbolic than practical, creating an illusion of safety.

The piece was constructed out of individually shaped and cut jump-links that were assembled by hand.
